Day 9 - reflection on the day

The boys have sporadic access to wifi tonight.  It seems that if they are prepared to give away a kidney, their inside leg measurement and give up their passports for life then they can have 5 minutes shared access....needless to say they are all a bit too tired to try and organise this (apart from Stu and Jamie who are the kings of the blog so far).  Anyway, they've made it to Germany safely after a relatively easy day.  One bike issue (puncture I think, from the pictures) and one rendezvous with a lovely 'Uncle of Step' were the highlights of the day.

Stu:  Day 9 – I had said to someone before commencing this challenge that my fear of the trip was the potential of humidity in the Black Forest, and boy I was not proved wrong!! The heat topped 38 degrees, and as I type this our window is open fully due to not having a/c, and there is just no air. Heat aside though this was another beautiful day’s cycling through pristine landscapes. My tan lines now look ridiculous, and we still have a few more days of potential sun to make them even worse….now sleep!!

Jamie:  Day 9: Zurich to Frieburg (82 miles) – So we escaped Zurich nice and early and had a good start till Steve’s tire blew. Luckly, this time, he wasn’t doing 48mph. During the repairs, a herd of cows came charging down the hill followed by a farmer and his dog, check the pic on Rome to Home 2012 page.

So we’re in Germany (Country 4 of 8) and cycled through the very pleasant Black Forest. The days seem to be going swimmingly till lunch when the temperature rose to above 35 degrees, just before the last big climb. We were all a knackered, sweaty mess by the time we reached the summit but we cooled off during an Epic 7 mile decent into Frieburg.

Plenty of pictures to show for their efforts today:
