Overview of the 'climb of the tour' and a general reflection on the last couple of days

George getting 40 winks
Here's a little round-up of the last few days, with some additional photos that help to illustrate just how exhausting this tour is proving to be.

Paul has finally caught up with himself and has sent a little ditty about day 4 and 5 (he'll catch up with everyone else eventually...), so let's start with that:

Paul:  Due to the late arrival into the hotel yesterday (13th August) in Trento my blog covers both Tuesday and Wednesday, and what eventful days they have been. I believe I have discovered a new medical condition named jellieous Legious. The symptoms include unbearable pain in the legs, the inability to stand when dismounting a bike (Luckily Steve caught me before I fell over) and complete numbness below the waist. Strangely the condition arises when you cycle for over three hours up a wacking big mountain (AKA - The Alps) in the blazing midday sun!!! Add in the emotional torture of George’s jokes and the physical torture of Steve’s awful wind to say it has been a testing time is an understatement.

On the plus side Lake Garda was amazing an absolutely fantastic place to visit and the decent through the Alps inspiring. Jamie is keeping the Nanji name in tact by dominating climbs, descents and also the flats for that matter, primarily because he is eating all the food in the van at lunch-time. A massive well done to Stu who was not at all well in the morning but still managed to get through a tough day’s cycling big respect!

Another day of climbing awaits and I will update from the Rome to Home base camp tomorrow evening!!

Stu's update on day 6:

Well what a fantastic day!! Yes it was 93 miles, and 2,500 metres of climbing, but as they say what goes up must come back down, and boy the downs were fun!! One thing I learnt yesterday is that it’s amazing how fast you can cycle up a hill when a dog that resembles a wolf comes charging down onto the road and then attempts to go for your left leg!! Anyway, that was yesterday, today sees two huge climbs up to 2400 metres, hopefully my legs will get me there!!
